The state of Maryland was bestowed the nickname of “America in miniature” by National Geographic which is a name I never understood for such a small state. I grew up in a suburb of a city with little travel outside of my town except to go into the city to see family or to drive to the beach in the summer. After first learning of this nickname as a teenager and thumbing through A. Aubrey Bodine’s photo book “My Maryland” I started to understand the nickname.

With the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, combined with living in a city, and our lease about to be up, my partner and I made the decision to move out and settle in a more isolated area. This decision of course was in the hopes to preserve our health and limit contact with others, but I did not expect to fall in love with this place as much as I did. While her residence may not always be to my liking, Harford County in particular has become a place very dear to me.
